PLAY:DISRUPT

Play:Disrupt designs unique interventions that really engage. We widen participation by seeking out communities whom others may have overlooked, drawing on creative play, technology, theatre, storytelling and visual art to connect, excite and offer new perspectives.

We work with local authorities, place makers, architects, universities, research institutes, healthcare and arts organisations to devise workshops and events to connect with their communities and stakeholders. Through this we uncover unique insights and codesigning solutions, empowering those who wouldn’t normally take part in civic life to have their voice heard.

Malcolm Hamilton is Creative Director of Play:Disrupt, Design Council Specialist Expert, LEGO ® SERIOUS PLAY ® facilitator and theatre maker. He devises Play:Disrupt’s events & workshops, as well as delivering talks & workshops for institutions including: RIBA, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Portsmouth City Council Regeneration team, University of Chester, The Brigstow Institute, University of Bristol & Festival of Place. His work has been featured in publications including Arup’s Visible Communities publication, Neighbourhood Planning in Practice, and Future Stories: Tales from the BCP Future Lab.

M Blaydes is an Arts and Outdoors Progression Worker for Imayla (Creating Urban Rural Creative Connections) working mostly with immigrant and asylum seeking families in Barton Hill, Bristol. M’s work builds trust and long-term relationships within the community to offer better play, learning opportunities and experiences leading creative workshops & organising trips to farms, arboretums, circus and theatre shows. M is also the Producer for Tidal Tales Collective, a social and climate justice conscious theatre company which tours family friendly interactive and playful shows combining old stories with new sounds of beatbox, loop station and theremin, performed in community spaces. She is a Trustee on the board of Many Minds, a mental health performance art charity, governing, strategizing, planning and facilitating performances and member forums. M has facilitated numerous engagements for Play:Disrupt.
